- German Research School for Simulation Sciences GmbH is being set up in Aachen and Jülich.
- Aachen Institute for Advanced Study in CES (AICES) graduate school operates since late 2006.
- Excellence Initiative portal launched with an AICES video entry.
- A PetaFLOPS machine has been installed at the Jülich Supercomputer Center in May 2009.
