Research Interest

CAE Cooling Simulation Model of Oil Jets

Project objective is the development of a new CAE/CFD simulation model for oil jet cooling of engine parts like pistons of high-performance Diesel, gasoline engines and thermal high-loaded CNG engines to avoid engine failures and to improve fuel economy.

The project will investigate the numerical simulation of oil jet cooling of engine parts like pistons to avoid too high temperatures. At high engine loads pistons may overheat and break. New concepts (steel pistons, advanced cooling galleries, CNG) have to be investigated for durable future engine designs before building expensive and late prototypes. A new reliable CAE/CFD simulation method for oil-jet cooling, piston-gallery cooling and CAE piston temperature prediction will be developed.
