Aachener Dom RWTH Aachen University is located in the German city of Aachen [home page, wikipedia entry], in the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen, at the junction of Germany, Belgium and Netherlands. Aachen, named Aquis Granum by the Romans, was the winter home of Charlemagne from 800 until his death in 814. The centerpiece of Aachen is the Aachen Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site, built around the Charlemagne's chapel constructed around 800 AD. Kings of the Holy Roman Empire were crowned in Aachen starting with Otto I in 936 until Ferdinand I in 1531.

RWTH Hauptgebäude The Aachen University campus is spread over the city center, the west-of-center Hörn district, and the western Melaten district. The main building at Templergraben 55 is pictured on the right. Next to it is the modern SuperC student service center.
