Hardware

Our primary external web server is a retired MacPro 1,1. This machine also masquerades as Manila and CVS. Specifications:

• 2.66 GHz dual-core Intel XEON CPU
• 2 x 2 GB DDR2 RAM
• 250 GB and 160 GB Serial ATA HDs

Software

We are running Plone 4.2 behind Apache 2.2. Direct access to Apache is obtained via port 8080. The following non-standard Plone products are installed: LinguaPlone 4.1.2, MultilanguageFields 1.0, Plone Classic Theme 1.2.2, Plone JQuery Integration 1.4.4, Plone JQuery Tools Integration 1.3.2, SimpleBlog 3.0, Workflow Policy Support (CMFPlacefulWorkflow) 1.5.7

Apache is set to map each user's Sites directory to a usual URL, e.g.:

~behr/Sites → http://www.cats.rwth-aachen.de:8080/~behr

This mechanism should be used for publishing large files like movies or PDFs, instead of uploading them using Plone interface.
