My research is focussed on shape optimization in mechanical engineering applications.
The main project aims at developing improved mixing elements for single-screw extrudes which help to homogeneize melts further. For this purpose we simulate isoltated parts of the extruder and optimize the mixing element's shape numerically by determining the mixing ability of each configuration.
Other fields of application are the integration of CAD and simulation, in which shape optimization methods are also being applied.
In addition, I supervise our volunteers of Bundesfreiwilligendienst together with Max Schuster.
