The students learn about the most important concepts in kinematics: coordinate systems, speed and acceleration in fixed and moving coordinate systems and the instant center for velocity. Furthermore the most important concepts in kinetics will be introduced: moment of inertia, energy, and momentum of rigid bodies. The goal is to master common analytic methods like the work-energy and the impulse-momentum principles. At the end of the course, the students are able to mathematically describe the movement of particles, particle systems, and rigid bodies in technical systems and apply numerical methods if needed.

The module consists of a lecture with 3 SWS and an exercise with 2 SWS, and carries 6 ECTS points. An optional hands-on exercise with 1 SWS is also offered.
